Deledao Content Filter
Understanding Deledao: A Guide for Parents
Purpose of Deledao:
Deledao is an advanced content filtering solution designed to help keep your child safe while they use the internet. It uses ProxyGuard and artificial intelligence to analyze and block inappropriate or harmful content, ensuring a safer online experience for students. By filtering out potentially dangerous websites, Deledao aims to provide a secure digital environment for learning and exploration.
Important Note on Content Filters:
While Deledao is a powerful tool, it is important to understand that no content filter is perfect. Some inappropriate content may still slip through, and some educational or appropriate content might be mistakenly blocked. Filters are constantly being updated and improved, but they cannot replace the vigilance and guidance of parents and educators.
Why Your Role Matters:
As a parent, your involvement is crucial. Regularly discuss online safety with your child, monitor their internet usage, and encourage open communication about their online experiences. Together, we can create a safer and more responsible digital environment for our children.
Frequent Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Can Deledao block all inappropriate content?
Answer: While Deledao is a powerful tool, no content filter is perfect. Some inappropriate content may still
slip through, and some educational or appropriate content might be mistakenly blocked. Filters are constantly
being updated and improved, but they cannot replace the vigilance and guidance of teachers and parents.
2. How does ProxyGuard help in maintaining online safety?
Answer: ProxyGuard in Deledao identifies and blocks proxy websites, which are used to bypass content
restrictions and browse the web anonymously. As new proxy websites are created daily, Deledao along with
the WSD IT department continuously updates the system to block them.
3. How can teachers ensure students remain on task?
Answer: Teachers can use Hapara to monitor student activity in real-time and employ active classroom
management techniques such as moving around the classroom and engaging with students. Restricting
internet access to essential sites for students who need it can also be effective.
Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Will all students be required to take a Chromebook home?
No, not all students are required to take a Chromebook home. Parents will receive a separate communication with the option to opt out, except for students enrolled in summer school who will need them. We emphasize the importance of allowing students to take their devices home during the summer to continue working on learning recovery, which is extremely important.
Are hotspots being provided to families that do not have an existing internet connection?
Yes, the district has a certain number of hot spots available for socio-economically disadvantaged families to ensure all students have the same access to their devices in support of their educational endeavors.
What about families that live in one-room situations with limited outlets? How will the district ensure that families have enough outlets to charge their Chromebooks?
For families with limited outlets, the district may provide portable chargers or power strips to accommodate multiple devices simultaneously. Additionally, optimizing power usage and scheduling charging times can be an effective method to minimize inconvenience.
What happens when a Chromebook is broken by a student?
When a Chromebook is broken, students should first try to troubleshoot the problem within their classroom. If they are unable to resolve the issue, they should take their device to their school Instructional Technology Assistant (ITA). They will be provided with a replacement Chromebook.
School ITA's will evaluate and assess the damage. If the repair requires any fees not covered under normal wear and tear or the Chromebook insurance protection plan, the parent/guardian will be notified. After contacting the parent/guardian, the device will be sent to the Innovation and Technology Services (ITS) department for a detailed analysis of the issue. ITS will invoice the parents via the school site administrator for any associated repair fees.
How will the district ensure that students bring a charged Chromebook to school every day?
Chromebook carts will remain in the classroom, and each classroom will have 4-5 spare Chromebooks for students to use if they forget to charge their device. Existing chargers in the Chromebook carts will be removed and distributed to the students as part of the Chromebook Take Home program. Principals and teachers must communicate regularly with parents to remind them to charge Chromebooks nightly.
What if a student forgets their Chromebook?
Students will be able to use an on-site loaner device for the day. Ideally, this need will decrease over time. We recommend that schools and teachers establish a ‘bring your device daily’ rule, treating the Chromebook similar to a textbook.
Can students put stickers on or customize Chromebooks?
No, students should not place stickers on or mark the Chromebook in any permanent way. Since students may not receive the same Chromebook following a repair, it’s important to avoid personalizing the device.
How does the District protect these devices?
The District uses a cloud-based filter to monitor internet content for students. While no filter is perfect, students should be monitored while using the Chromebook. Online activity is also monitored, and any inappropriate messages, videos, or images will be flagged, with administration being notified. Students should follow the agreed-upon acceptable use policy and digital citizenship best practices. Additionally, the devices can be disabled if reported stolen, rendering the device useless. For the wellness component, alerts will be directed to the summer school principals for review and action.
How did the district come to the decision of moving towards a Take Home program model and what funding source are they using to fund it?
The district, like many in Orange County, recognizes the importance of promoting equity and access so all students can continue their learning efforts outside of the normal school day. These Chromebooks are already part of the 1:1 Chromebook initiative, and no additional funding sources are being utilized to move forward with the Take Home Program.
