Westminster School District recognizes that in addition to increasing knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, that we also need to provide learning experiences where students develop skills to solve problems, to make sense of information, and know how to gather and evaluate evidence to make decisions.
STEM education is more than a combination of subjects taught in a classroom. STEM education is a mindset that leads to creative problem solving where students apply a minimum of two subject areas to solve real-world problems that are relevant to K-8th grade students. STEM education uses processes like the engineering design process and design thinking to help students develop strategies for solving problems through hands-on and minds-on learning.
