Welcome to the 2019-20 School Year!

This year we will continue our great work and a key focus will be working together for maximum impact. We have exceptional teams of principals, teachers, and staff in every school working together along with the support of an excellent team of school district leaders and staff who are committed to the success of each and every student.

Westminster School District (WSD) is becoming known as a “destination district,” meaning that parents from outside our district are choosing to send their children here because they recognize that we offer innovative, forward-thinking programs that will set their children up for success. In fact, last year WSD was one of just 26 districts in California (out of about 1,000) to be named an Honor Roll School District, a national program recognizing high-performing schools that improve outcomes for students.

Four years ago, WSD became the first district in California to offer a Vietnamese Dual Language Immersion Academy and this year we became the first district in California to offer a Vietnamese dual language program in preschool and transitional kindergarten. In April, we became the first district in Southern California to open a Spanish dual immersion toddler program and just this month we became the first district in California to open a Spanish dual immersion infant program. Students in our dual language programs will graduate from our district being bilingual, biliterate and bicultural and WSD is leading the way in ensuring our youngest learners are on the path to success!

In addition to Vietnamese, Spanish and English, our students have the opportunity to learn a fourth language in WSD: Coding. We have a deep commitment to computer science and coding and we are transforming learning through our leading-edge educational technology. We are proud of the extensive training we provide our teachers who are well versed on the latest advances in educational technology that enhance instruction. We understand that every child is unique and has his or her own interests, strengths and talents so we work hard to provide engaging programs that spark the interest of every child.

Again, welcome back and thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education.  We will work every day to inspire each student to achieve his or her greatest potential. I wish you a year filled with happiness, learning, and success!

Warm regards,

Dr. Cyndi Paik
