WSD Smashes Kindness Campaign Goal

We are proud to announce that we have exceeded our goal of 1 million acts of kindness as part of our year-long Kindness Campaign. One year ago, WSD partnered with Mayor Tri Ta and the City of Westminster in holding a Kindness Campaign designed to promote a caring, considerate and welcoming environment throughout Westminster. As of February 1, 2017, teachers, administrators, classified staff, and students have participated in 1,343,072 acts of kindness!

Terrific Tet Parade

WSD had a delegation of about 200 people in the Tet Parade in Little Saigon this year. Board Members, the Superintendent and students and staff from all 17 schools participated in this special event. Chuc Mung Nam Moi!

Every Student Succeeding Awards

The Westminster Educational Leadership Association (WELA) annually honors students who have made a special effort to succeed and triumph over obstacles such as: overcoming physical and mental barriers, changing their attitude, improving their grades, increasing their attendance, or resisting bad influences. Many of these students have overcome extreme adversity and all of them have shown tremendous courage and determination.

Stacey Middle School Getting $15 million Gymnasium & Multi-Use Facility

A great Groundbreaking Ceremony was held at Stacey Middle School for the new $15 million Gymnasium & Multi-Use Facility that will be completed next year. The ceremony was attended by many distinguished guests including our Board of Trustees, Senator Janet Nguyen, Huntington Beach Council Member Patrick Brenden and Westminster Mayor Tri Ta. In addition to a full sized gymnasium, the new building will include a dedicated music classroom and a stage for performances and presentations. The facility will be able to accommodate 1,500 people.

WSD Celebrates the new Sequoia Academy, a GATE Magnet School

An exciting ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by many distinguished guests at Sequoia Academy yesterday. The ceremony officially established Sequoia Academy as a GATE (Gifted & Talented Education) magnet elementary school. The program, which is offered to preK-6th grade students, provides an integrated approach to core curriculum including STEAM Academy rotations with robotics and computer science, music, art, history, and visual and performing arts. Scholars will master AVID and GATE strategies while developing higher level thinking skills in a demanding academic program.

Parents Invited to Preview English Language Arts Materials

Parents and community members may preview K-8 English Language Arts and English Language Development Materials at the District Office January 23-26. This is an opportunity to review materials and provide input before recommendations are made for adoption to the Westminster School District Board of Trustees on February 16th.

Kindergarten Information Night for Parents January 25th

Do you have a child that will be five years old on or before December 2, 2017? Come learn about our outstanding academic and transitional kindergarten programs at a special meeting for parents on January 25th at 6:30 pm at all of our elementary school sites. Translation services and childcare will be provided.
