"The Price of Freedom" Art Contest Winners

The Vietnam Veterans of America in partnership with Board Member Frances Nguyen sponsored an art contest with the theme of "The Price of Freedom" for 7th & 8th grade students. $1,000 in prize money was awarded to:
1st Place: Emma Dutch, Grade 8, Stacey Middle School
2nd Place: Trevor Tran, Grade 8, Stacey Middle School
3rd Place: Lillian Thai, Grade 8, Stacey Middle School

Dr. Cyndi Paik Named Superintendent

The Board of Trustees of the Westminster School District approved Dr. Cyndi Paik as the new superintendent, effective July 1st, at a board meeting Thursday night. “We are so pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Paik. She is held in high esteem throughout the District and community and she has the right combination of experience, knowledge and vision to provide our students with the 21st century skills needed to be college and career ready,” announced Penny Loomer, Board President.

WSD Receives Several Honors at OCDE Language Learner Celebration

The Orange County Department of Education presented awards for accelerating bilingualism and biliteracy to Dr. Renae Bryant, executive director of the Office of Language Acquisition and to teachers Mimosa Ha and Lisa Krallman. WSD became the first district in California to offer a Vietnamese Dual Language Immersion program in 2015 and last September we opened the district's first Spanish Dual Language Immersion program. 1st Annual Archery Tournament

About 30 students from Stacey & Warner competed in the District's first-ever Archery Tournament last weekend. With support from the Board of Trustees and grants from the Easton Foundation, the after-school Archery program has been running at Stacey for four years and Warner began a program this year. All 3 Middle Schools Receive Gold Ribbon Award & Title I Academic Achievement Award

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced that Johnson, Stacey and Warner Middle Schools are being honored as Gold Ribbon Schools as well as Title I Academic Achievement Schools. “These terrific schools are leading the way in embracing our new rigorous academic standards and showing others how to help students succeed on their way to 21st century careers and college,” Torlakson said. 7 Schools Named Honor Roll Schools

Educational Results Partnership (ERP) and the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE) selected 7 WSD schools to receive the title of 2016 Honor Roll school. The Honor Roll is part of a national effort to identify higher-performing schools and highlight successful practices that improve outcomes for students. The 2016 Honor Roll Schools are: Clegg, Fryberger, Hayden, Johnson, Sequoia, Stacey and Warner.

Westminster School District has been selected by Educational Results Partnership (ERP) and the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE) as one of only 20 public school districts in California to receive the title of 2016 Honor Roll School District. This is the 2nd year in a row we have earned this award!
